The Science Behind Clear Skin

BBL Clear uses a proprietary multi-wavelength process that distinguishes it from standard IPL treatments. Each session involves three precisely sequenced passes of the BBL HERO handpiece, each targeting a different contributor to acne.

Step 1: Blue Light
Eliminate Acne-Causing Bacteria The first pass uses blue BBL light to penetrate deep into the pores, where it targets and destroys Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), the bacteria responsible for triggering breakouts. By addressing the source of acne directly, this step helps clear existing blemishes and works to prevent new ones from forming.

Step 2: Yellow Light
Calm Inflammation and Redness The second pass uses yellow BBL light to reduce the inflammation and redness that characterize active acne. This step helps resolve inflammatory lesions more quickly while visibly calming the skin, evening out tone, and reducing the appearance of post-acne marks.

Step 3: Infrared Light
Activate the Skin's Natural Healing Response The third pass uses infrared light delivered in rapid, gentle pulses to stimulate the skin's innate healing mechanisms. By supporting collagen production and cellular renewal, this step improves skin texture, helps fade scarring, and amplifies the results of the first two passes.

  • Your eyes will be carefully shielded before treatment begins. A clear gel is applied to the skin, and the cooled BBL HERO handpiece glides gently across the treatment area, completing all three passes in a single, continuous session. Most patients find the experience comfortable and well-tolerated, with minimal sensation throughout. A mild warmth or gentle stinging may be felt at times, but the built-in cooling system keeps skin protected at every stage. Sessions typically take between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

  • There is little to no downtime. Most patients apply makeup and return to their regular routine immediately following treatment. Some mild redness may appear and typically fades within a few hours. Some patients experience a mild worsening of redness or  acne in the days following treatment, which is normal and is expected to improve. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure and wearing a broad-spectrum SPF daily following each session.

  • Many patients notice a visible improvement in their skin after just one session. For optimal and lasting results, a series of treatments is recommended, typically 4–6 sessions spaced one to two weeks apart.
